In your Functional Area Intelligence tables you'll see two data points for Signal Strength and Intensity.
Signal Strength is the frequency of which we can determine the usage of a product at a company. Intensity is the measure of the number of unique signals detected that indicate usage of a product at a company.
So, what's the difference?
Intensity is a way for us to normalize install signals across companies. This is because we see more signals for large customers than for smaller customers. There are two data points that you need to understand intensity:
- Date First Verified - The first data that a specific produce was detected in use at a specific company or company location.
- Date Last Verified - This is the most recent a product was detected at specific company or company location.
Think of intensity as the count of unique dates that HG detects a signal for a specific product at a specific company or company location. In other words, it's a proxy of strength of usage that can help compare different companies using a particular technology.
The goal with FAI is to understand where a specific product is being used. As a result, there isn’t a limit on how many signals can be detected per day—HG can count them all.
Meaning, if a company has 1,000 documents on a single day, FAI can count them all, versus only counting the signal once for intensity. Signal Strength provides a more complete picture for FAI (i.e. users can understand relative strength within a company to help with the department/location granularity).
Let's dive into an an example with Spacey.AI, who produces 2,000 signals on Monday, and 400 signals on Tuesday for one of their specific products.
Their intensity would be 2, and their signal strength would be 2,000 on Monday, and 400 on Tuesday. This data is distributed across the locations for users to understand which location is using that product the most.
Is there a difference between install signals and and FAI data?
No... but also yes. Install signals and FAI signals are surfaced from the same set of data! You may see differences in number of locations, though, because we have different lookback periods for these two data points.
For installs we show signals detected for the last 24 months (2 years), and for FAI we show signals detected for the last 36 months (3 years).
